Mexico:

The President introduces strict measures due to Coronavirus

Andrés Manuel López Obrador compared to Reagan and Thatcher after introducing new severe austerity measures

Identifies himself as a leftist, but after introducing of some austerity measured because of Covid-19 that hit Mexico, Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador has been compared to Margaret Tacher and Ronald Regan by his criticizers. These measures include the abolition of 10 government departments, a hiring freeze and a 25% cut in government salaries and also it's almost certain that the Christmas bonus is going to be cut as well at least during this year.

However, despite the cuts, the president has announced help to the mega projects that include oil refinery at Tabasco, pair of railways, and an airport north of Mexico City. Suggestions, in order to reduce the negative impact on the economy by cutting the taxes and tax reliefs that would be applied to the entrepreneurs, were disapproved recalling the unhappy history of the Mexican economy that came from the private sector and banking bailouts.

In essence, the plan for economic recovery is mostly based on critics of the neoliberal model that according to the president has only deepen inequality and encourage corruption that benefits a few.

Still, there will be some packages of the help that would include $25,000 Mexican Pesos ($1000 USD)  to the owners of small businesses. Also, there will some cuts in the public system that would even bring to firing unnecessary bureaucrats and the money that would be saved would be directed into the women shelters and help to the health care system.
